Middle & Senior School Prize Day

Date: 24th Nov 2009 to 25th Nov 2009
Location: Main Stage, OOEHS Fujairah

As is customary, the Annual Prize Distribution Day for the Senior section of the school was held over two evenings in November.  Prizes for academic achievement were awarded to students of the middle school on Tuesday 24th November, 2009.  Chief Guest on this occasion was Mr Sulaiman Sulaiman, Chief of the Private Section, Ministry of Education, Fujairah Zone.

The Senior School Prize distribution took place the following evening at a function open only to special invitees which included dignitaries from GEMS Dubai, Heads of GEMS schools  and special friends of the school from among VIP s of Fujairah.  Parents of prizewinners also graced the occasion.

The programme commenced with the official inauguration of the new extension building by the chief guest, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Sharqui, who was escorted by the Principal on a brief tour of the new building.  Sheikh Abdullah then awarded prizes for academic achievement to students of classes nine to twelve of the CBSE and IGCSE sections of the school.  Special gold medals were awarded to the toppers in the public examinations conducted during the year.  Four teachers were awarded the inaugural TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD  and two teachers were recognized for having completed 20 years of continuous service to the school.

The cultural and variety programme that followed  was thoroughly enjoyed by all who remained to witness it.  The school choir welcomed the assembly with an original song composed by Mr Alex D’Souza.  The school band then gave a first-time performance with two popular contemporary songs each of which carried a special message.  A colourful and invigorating dance item followed, devised and choreographed by Mrs Marina Samuel, which featured dances from different parts of the world.  The programme was brought to an end with a mini-musical featuring the songs of the one-time favourite pop group, ABBA.  Lovers of western music were thoroughly appreciative of the acting and singing abilities of our senior girls, guided by Mr Alex D’Souza and Mr G Davids.  The high standard of the programme was particularly noteworthy, as pointed out by the Principal in his annual report, for having been achieved without any professional help.

The Principal was appreciative of the skill, enthusiasm and team-work of staff and students together which collectively contributed to the success of the evening’s programme.
