The H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Excellence is presented by GEMS each year to exceptional girl students from across the GEMS network of schools in the UAE. The award is in honour of the mother of the nation, H.H Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak and her ongoing commitment to excellence and the empowerment of women.
Winners of this prestigious award, selected by their respective schools, demonstrate outstanding academic performance, commitment to the environment and world citizenship.
Priyanka Basawaraj Hongal of Grade 10 (CBSE), the 2009 winner from Our Own English High School, Fujairah, has participated actively in the co-curricular programme of the school excelling in Public Speaking and Elocution. She participated in environmental campaigns. She has also maintained an outstanding academic record throughout her school career.
Priyanka, along with 30 other outstanding girls from GEMS schools, received her award from His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, at a memorable ceremony conducted on 29th April, 2009, at the GEMS Wellington School in Dubai.
